Jazyky světa: Historie a současnost

Languages of the world(Presentation text) "The safest way to penetrate the national mentality and to understand the culture of another nation as accurately as possible is to get to know its language," says the introduction to this publication, which provides an overview of the languages of the world so far known. Now you can meet this book in a new, updated and edited edition and in Czech.

Author PhDr. Jozef Genzor is an important linguist, Korean and Filipino translator from English and Korean. He is co-author of several scientific publications and author of many scientific and popular science articles and reviews. His main areas of interest are linguistic interference and typology of Tagalog, sociolinguistics and research into the position of Korean in the family of languages of the world.

The book offers an overview of nearly 2,000 languages on all continents. It is not possible to determine the exact number of all languages of the world for a simple reason - it is not always possible to distinguish between language and dialect. Languages also differ quantitatively. Some speak only a few individuals, while others are the means of communication of several hundred thousand or millions of communities. Languages also have an unequal and not always sufficient degree of linguistic processing. Time plays a similar role to space.

The overview starts from the languages we are closest to, the Indo-European family. This is followed by other languages of the Eurasian area - Basque, Caucasian, extinct unclassified Mediterranean and Middle East languages, Burish language, Dravidian language, Ural and Altai languages, Korean language, Japanese language and Paleo Asian languages. Then there are Indian languages that came to America from Asia. Other large campuses include Sinotibetian languages, Secret languages, Hmong-Mien languages, Austro-Asian, Andaman and Australian languages. Papuan and Australian languages, including Tasmanian languages, are attached to them from the south. Another large area is the Afro-Asian family in the Middle East and North Africa. In the areas south of the Sahara, this area is touched by African languages, which have not yet been explored. A special grouping consists of pijin and creole languages scattered throughout the world, as well as Esperanto-like plan languages.

While working out the chapters, the author adhered to a scheme including data on geographical distribution, ethno-cultural characteristics, general structural characteristics, internal breakdowns, relationships with other groups, an overview of research to date and, in some cases, borrowings that have penetrated these languages into Czech language. In addition to the main author, a number of other experts participated in the work.
